MyownCup Menstrual Cup

MoonTime is now proudly stocking MyownCup menstrual cup.

I’ve been using the cup for a few years now and I love it… it has definitely been a game changer!  It’s easy to use once you get the knack of it, no nasties inside your body and I get to give my blood back to the earth.  A sister once said ‘if more women gave their blood back to the earth, there would be less need for bloodshed through violence’.  How incredible that I get to give back to our mama while honouring myself.

I wear a cup during the day when I’m out and about and our MoonTime pads at night so I can let my blood flow.  I’m grateful for the combo and I love that every moontime I don’t spend a cent and I throw nothing away… except my blood back into the earth!

What a blessing x

Inserting the Cup

Push Down Folding Method

Step 1
Push the rim of the cup down into the inside of the base of the cup

Step 2
Grasp the rim of the cup with your other hand to help maintain the crease, while continuing to pinch firmly with original hand to ensure that the rim is still pointed.

Step 3
Insert cup until stem is 1 – 2 cm inside of the vagina

– It is very important to relax when inserting & removing your cup. To aid insertion use some clean water to wet the cup.

– MyownCup does not need to be inserted as high as a tampon. Inserting the cup too high will make removal more difficult, and if the cup sits too high it can also be uncomfortable. Insert it, so that the stem of the cup is 1-2cm inside the vagina.

– Once inserted, if the cup is not fully opened, you can gently pull on the stem of the cup (as if to remove it). This will allow the cup to move lower in the vagina and air to flow into the air holes helping it open completely.  Do not pull to the point where it comes out of the vagina.

Removing the Cup

Wash your hands with soap and clean water.  Sit comfortably and relax your vaginal muscles.  You should be able to feel the stem of the cup.  If not, reach up and grasp the stem, or squeeze your vaginal muscles to help lower the cup in the vaginal canal.  Once reached, relax and pull gently in a downward direction.  If the cup feels “stuck”, you can help release the vacuum by placing a finder against the body of cup and gently depressing it causing a crease to form and allow air to flow in.  Moving the cup side to side while pulling on the stem will also assist. Once MyownCup reaches the entrance of the vagina, keep it upright with the stem down and slowly remove it from the vaginal opening. Tip the contents into a bucket to put on the garden or in the toilet, wipe or rinse then reinsert if required.

– It is recommended that you boil your MyownCup at the end of your menses and allow to air-dry before storing it in the cotton bag provided.

– Depending on your flow, you might be able to wear MyownCup for up to 12 hours at a time. Remember to check and empty your cup as least twice a day.

Wash & Boil or Sterilize

Wash MyownCup with clean, warm water.  Make sure that the air holes are clean.  Immerse in water and then boil MyownCup in an open pot for 5 minutes.

Note: there is no need to sterilize between emptying unless the cup is dropped into toilet or onto the floor.
Wash Hands – always wash your hands with soap and water before inserting, removing or handling your cup.

You can also use the Cup Sanitizer Spray. Once cup is washed, one spritz on the inside, and one on the outside will ensure your cup is free of nasties.

Store in the cotton material bag.

The Journey of MAGDALA

How the Joy and Work of the Womb Really Began for Me
By Chantell van Outeniqua aka Sister Shanti Creator of MAGDALA Yoni Steam Goodies

As the waters of my womb grew during my sprouting into motherhood so did the water realms of elemental spirituality open up. I started feeling deeply drawn to mermaids and pearls, rivers, oceans… I started going deeper into moon mysteries, deeper than I have ever gone before. The plant realm started talking to me about different ways to work with them. Becoming a mother has called me to walk deeper.

When my son was 5 months old I was missing my moontime so deeply. I craved that release that came with each flowing moon. On all the levels of being I was so ready for bleeding again.

And so for the first time in my life I was drawn by some sort of Feminine~Earth~Mother~Magnitsm to create a yoni steaming ritual for myself. I gathered the herbs I had created to preserve my sons placenta during lotus birth. The herbs were all hand harvested from our magical garden. Rosemary, holy basil and lavender – dried and pestled to a fine within the mortar. Tumeric, cloves and salt of the sea. I boiled up the herbs and spices in a pot, lit some candles and then placed the warm pot on the Earth and I squatted over it with my long dress keeping the steam in. The feeling of immediate release and gratitude came towards my place here and now on Earth Mother. I squatted and swayed and hummed for 20 minutes and I went to bed that night feeling light and clear.

The next day my moontime was present and tears of joy streamed down my face. Ever since then I am in awe of the plant people and the connection we have from our hearts and wombs… to follow one’s path clearly.

Then I started recommending yoni steams to the sister circle, to all the sisters who were talking stories of the womb. With the recent 5000 year history breathing down our necks and up our thighs we all require to meet with our wombs, to find out where she is at and what she is holding… the creativity and the blockages.

Yoni steaming is a wonderful way to connect to this creative centre. Simply honouring the physicality of our wombanhood, all that we carry… the Past, the Present, the Future. The pain, the here and now, the creativity waiting to be born.

And so moving to Hogsback, the mountains of water and plants of Africa and Europe, the ancestral mountain with so many stories to tell, I was drawn to start harvesting the highest quality yoni steam herbs and everything fell into place without effort and this creative process of medicine is an ever abundant joy.

I trust that the medicine of earth mother shines through in the physical product as we, the daughters of Earth, are called to step deeper.

Get to Know your Pad

blue-shwe-shwe-reusable-sanitary-pad-x-large

I have not been much of a pad girl in the past so had to smile to myself that life brought me together with Anja and that we are now in the pad business! Gotta love it!

So of course being in the pad business, I had to trial and test the product I would be sharing and had no idea what a great change it would be. I got my starter set and so the journey began.

I was pleasantly surprised. Wearing a pad is obviously different to wearing an internal product so it took a bit of getting used to and finding out what size and when worked for me.

I took some time to be fully in the process and be with my body and the pads.
There is something amazing in the process of letting your blood flow – allowing it to do its thing and find its way out the body.

Since I have started on this new exciting venture, I have been doing a lot of research and have realised just how bad disposable sanitary products are… for our health and for the environment. Knowing what I know now, I am just so grateful that I have an alternative… like our MoonTime reusable sanitary pads. YAY!

So during the journey of getting to know my pads, I realised a few things…

• Make sure your underwear is tight and sits close to your body – this helps the pad stay in place and absorb immediately as the blood leaves your body – if there is a gap there is more chance of leakage.

• Depending on your flow, wear a pad that is more on the bigger side than smaller side when sleeping. Wear tight underwear and another tight layer like hot pants or leggings. This helps the pad stay in place when you are moving around in your sleep. I also found myself checking the position of my pad whenever I moved in the night which helped keep everything in place. Of course we don’t always know what we’re doing when we’re sleeping but it is amazing how we can unconsciously be in tune with what is going on.

• Work out how you bleed – how much, does it flow evenly or come in spurts, do you bleed more to the front or more to the back – that comes with taking the time to feel it out and observing your body’s way… which of course can be different every time. I like to take a moment to be with my process – take note and be aware of what is happening.

• Find the right size for the time of your cycle and your flow. Our pads are bit bigger and longer than disposable pads but that’s what I personally like about them. I like that there is full coverage and would rather have more cover than less.

Don’t be fooled by the fact that they are quite thin… they are super absorbent and really do work.

I have loved getting closer to my body and being more in tune with my cycle and the process of bleeding every month. Menstruation has been called “the curse” and so for many of us, that is exactly how we treat it. It is not a curse… it is a blessing! I know it isn’t always convenient and can be a pain in the ass but in my journey, the more connected I am to my cycle, the more space and opportunities I am given to really honour the process and make the very most of it. There are many different things we can learn about the different phases of our cycle and we will be writing more about that in time to come.

In the meantime, I am aware that for many people the thought of washing their own pads is gross and I sort of did too… until I did it and have now come to enjoy it. I get to see what my body is doing and water the garden with the highly nutritious water. I know that I am not putting anything harmful near the most sensitive part of my body and I know that I am making a difference to the environment and lightening my load on mama earth.

Sounds like a win win situation to me! Happy MoonTime x
